Students may write term papers on AIDS for several different academic disciplines, such as biology, nursing, cultural studies, and counseling. Solid academic research includes only accepting statistics from sources that use only well-known and well-respected methods, using medical data from the most recent sources available, and not building an argument on sources that are highly emotive or rhetoric-driven.
The student should clearly define whether the term paper will be argumentative or expository. If the paper is argumentative, the student should be careful to buttress every point of the argument with solid, verifiable evidence and not to use maudlin language.
