Term Paper on Obesity

Written by: Free Term Papers

A term paper on obesity is an excellent endeavor for a course in biology, anatomy, physiology, or any other form of life science. The student will need to narrow the subject's focus somewhat from there, but “obesity” is a fine beginning term for one’s topic tree.

A topic tree is a tool for limiting and refining one’s topic choice. The student must remember that a narrow, pinpointed focus on one aspect of obesity will result in a stronger term paper on obesity, because the student will be able to express the full range of his or her thoughts on that one specialized aspect. The student who creates a topic tree writes a column in which each term is a narrower example of the preceding term. For example, a topic tree on obesity may look like this: 1.) obesity, 2.) obesity in women, 3.) obesity in women over 60, 4.) obesity's effects on the mobility of women over 60. When the student has reached the fourth or fifth term of the topic tree, he or she will have a nicely reduced topic to research.

Term papers on obesity can vary greatly in their precise topic choice. A student could research, for example, the effects of obesity on one’s health, the prevalence of obesity in twenty-first-century America, the progression of cultural obesity from 1900 until 2009, or the effects of obesity on the healthcare system, to name just a few. Students can easily narrow each of these general topics to create highly specialized term papers on obesity.

The student should tailor his or her method of research to meet the needs of the topic choice. A term paper on the history of obesity requires a great deal of research from several decades, while a term paper on the future of obesity in the population requires much more current research. Similarly, a term paper on the scientific concerns of obesity requires scientific research; the student who writes this type of paper should begin research in medical journals or science journals.
