Nursing Term Paper

Written by: Free Term Papers

An instructor assigns a nursing term paper in order to allow the student to grow in knowledge of a certain subject or to see what the student has learned over the semester. Depending on the instructor’s wishes, the student may write a nursing term paper in one of the following ways: a research report, a case study, or a report on personal experience in clinicals or in the laboratory. Nursing term papers differ from the term papers of some other disciplines in that the writer will not ordinarily present a persuasive argument; the writer will present solidly researched facts.

The student whose instructor requires a research report on a certain topic should follow the guidelines for a research term paper. He or she should plan to spend a great deal of time reading medical journals, encyclopedia articles, and books, and then he or she should present the information as a straightforward research paper, always following the department’s style manual for specific formatting details.

The student who discusses a case study for the nursing term paper should clearly identify the person under examination and the primary area of concern within that case study. For example, the person in the case may suffer a rare form of cancer as well as diabetes; if the student chooses to focus on the cancer, he or she should only discuss the person’s diabetes as it affects the cancer treatment. The student should research the case as carefully as possible, drawing from other research sources to help explain various aspects of the case (such as recent medical research on the disease).

Students who report their own experiences for their nursing term papers should be careful to write as objectively as possible, limiting themselves to a presentation of the facts only. They should resist the temptation to include their own reflections unless the instructor specifically requests otherwise.
