How to Write Term Paper

Written by: Free Term Papers

Sometimes instructors couch mini-lessons within their instructions on how to write term papers. The student who knows what to expect from these mini-lessons will be able to hear and learn from them much more easily.

First, the instructor may provide directions on how to write term paper thesis statements correctly. The instructor may tell the student whether this type of term paper should include a thesis statement that is expository (a statement of which body of verifiable fact the paper will discuss) or persuasive (a statement of the paper's position on a given controversy or interpretation of the subject). The instructor may also include directions on its location in the term paper, such as whether it should come at the end of the first paragraph or whether the term paper should introduce the subject thoroughly before stating its thesis.

Second, the instructor may teach how to write term paper research citations. The student should take careful notes on this topic, because it contains many details that require accuracy. The student should particularly pay attention to how to cite Internet sources, because the types of identifying information that instructors consider necessary vary greatly.

Third, the instructor may provide some guidance over how to write term papers, whether that focuses on how to synthesize research material, how to form persuasive thoughts, or even how to write senses that make sense grammatically. This instruction will also vary greatly and will inform the student somewhat over how important the mechanics of writing and argumentation are to the instructor's grading rubric. For example, if the student is writing a term paper for a composition course, the instructor will probably spend a great deal of time teaching these skills.

The student should consider all instructions on how to write term papers to be important, because they all provide glimpses into what the instructor expects. If the student has questions regarding a term paper element that the instructor has not addressed, he or she should not hesitate to ask the instructor.
