Cancer Term Paper

Written by: Free Term Papers

Students may write cancer term papers for a number of courses in the life sciences, nursing, or the social sciences. The nature of the course will determine which aspect of cancer the term paper describes; for example, a cancer term paper for a course in marriage and family therapy would probably primarily discuss the implications cancer has for a marriage. However, because cancer is a physical disease, each student who writes a cancer term paper should perform enough research in medical books, journals, or encyclopedias to know the basics of what is happening in the body of a person who has cancer.

Students who write cancer term papers will have to narrow their topics at least somewhat; cancer is such a huge topic that one term paper could not possibly deal with it adequate without specializing the focus. Students may narrow their topics by choosing to deal with a certain type of cancer, a certain treatment, psychological problems cancer patients encounter, or any other aspect of cancer. Students may narrow the topics still further from there by adding qualifying or describing phrases to the topics they have just chosen. For example, a student who has chosen to write a cancer term paper on chemotherapy may narrow the topic to "side effects of chemotherapy in children" or "emotional issues chemotherapy patients frequently face."

One special concern in a cancer term paper is that the writer will probably find important research sources that use unfamiliar terms, especially arcane medical terminology. If a student has a source that seems useful but is not fully comprehensible, he or she should consult a dictionary, lower-level medical textbooks, reputable webpages, or the instructor of the course to try to understand the unfamiliar words and concepts. The student who begins the project early enough and who looks for help through a variety of resources should be able to become sufficiently familiar with the concepts to write well about them on a level appropriate for a term paper.
