Biology Term Paper

Written by: Free Term Papers

A student writes a biology term paper on a topic that relates to the course. If the course covers biology in a general way, the student may study any topic in the term paper as long as the instructor will approve it, but if the course deals with a more specialized subject, the paper's subject should fall within the range of that subject.

The key to writing a good biology term paper is to conduct research appropriately. The student should exhaust all methods that may provide unique insight into the topic; this may include not only reading many books and journal articles but also conducting experiments, compiling and analyzing data, and directly interviewing field experts in order to find out their opinions on the subject. The more creatively the student can perform research, the more valuable his or her biology term paper will be. Even if the student is not proving a unique hypothesis about a certain topic, it may still be worthwhile to investigate the topic through methods other than reading, because science propels itself forward through young scientists' reproduction and verification of the data that other scientists have generated.

However, students who are creatively researching topics for their biology term papers must remember that all results must be reproducible. Therefore, if students perform any primary research, they must make sure that they are drawing their conclusions from the compilation of a number of experiments, experiences, or interviews. For example, if the student is writing a biology term paper on the way a bacterium reacts to a certain drug, he or she should perform experiments on that bacterium many times, observing the results carefully. If the student receives remarkably aberrant results, he or she should try to figure out what caused the change.

Biology students are scientists, and biology term papers should reflect the work of a scientist. Therefore, although one may benefit tremendously from extensive reading on the subject, one should boldly explore the subject area for oneself.
