Anthropology Term Paper

Written by: Free Term Papers

An anthropology term paper discusses a topic within the study of humans, usually having to do with ancient, primitive, or indigenous cultures. Anthropology term papers may relate closely to the academic fields of archaeology, religion, linguistics, and the humanities, so students should prepare themselves to do interdisciplinary research as necessary.

The student should select a topic that relates to the scope of the course. For example, the student who is writing an anthropology term paper for a course in African tribal religion should identify a tribe, a god, or a religious practice to discuss. The course does not have to specifically address the student's chosen anthropology term paper topic, but the student should be able to make a good case for why the topic is relevant.

Because anthropology term papers may deal closely with other academic disciplines, students may have to perform research creatively. They should be sure to know to which research databases the university subscribes, because they may then be more familiar with their research options. Perhaps the university has a history research database that the student has never used but that could provide some excellent research for the topic at hand. Students may find out how to access these databases by inquiring at the university library's help desk. Furthermore, if the student realizes that there is an aspect or a question within the topic that straightforward research has not addressed, he or she should ask the instructor for help; the instructor may be able to direct the student to the appropriate sources.

However, although anthropology term papers may extensively use the research and ideas of other disciplines, students should make sure that they do not lose sight of anthropology itself. For example, the paper may heavily treat archaeological themes, discoveries, and artifacts, but the student should make sure that the term paper's thesis statement and subsequent argument relates to an anthropological theme or issue.
